Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) have evolved rapidly, and today they are capable of doing substantial damage to both onshore and offshore installations. Potentially hostile nations and terrorist organisations have demonstrated the ability to use this technology for weapon delivery and intelligence gathering. Detecting and documenting the presence of UASs requires time and resources, and the use of UASs will only increase in the future.

KONGSBERGs drone detection services provide airborne threat detection and tracking. By creating a perimeter around an installation at sea, the system helps to guard it from UASs. By layering outputs from multiple drone detection sensors, more than one target can be visualised in 2D or 3D, and if the drones have a protocol, they can be identified. Covert Vessel and Drones Detected: Safeguarding Offshore Installations
The KSAT satellite (1) detects a vessel that has turned off its Automatic Identification System (AIS), in the same area as an oil platform. An alert is sent to the platforms in the area to remain vigilant.
Meanwhile, the platform’s Drone Detection sensors (2) pick up and track drones in the air, and the Fixed-Point Subsea Surveillance (3) spots an unidentified underwater object approaching. By crossing predetermined security boundaries, the drones and underwater object have already triggered an alert to the coastguard.
To bolster their situational awareness, the platform operators access a comprehensive 360-degree camera (4) feed that precisely tags the locations of the incoming drones. They request authorisation to neutralise the approaching drones using jamming techniques.
